Google Could Pay Apple $3 Billion to Remain Default Search Engine on iOS

Google is set to pay Apple nearly $3 billion this year to remain as the default search engine on iPhones and iPads, according to U.S. research and brokerage firm Bernstein (via CNBC).

According to the investor note, Google is paying out three times as much to Apple as it did in 2014 for the same privilege, with Google's licensing fees making up a large bulk of Apple's services business.

"Court documents indicate that Google paid Apple $1B in 2014, and we estimate that total Google payments to Apple in FY 17 may approach $3B," CNBC quoted analyst A.M. Sacconaghi Jr. as saying.

"Given that Google payments are nearly all profit for Apple, Google alone may account for five per cent of Apple's total operating profits this year, and may account for 25 per cent of total company OP growth over the last two years," he added.
Apple has increasingly highlighted its services business as a core component of its continued growth. In a recent conference call, for example, CEO Tim Cook said the company's services had become as large as a Fortune 100 company over the last 12 months.

Apple's iOS devices contribute about 50 per cent to Google's mobile search revenue, according to Sacconaghi, suggesting Google would be unlikely to walk away from the licensing deal even if it suspected Apple would stick with Google as the default search engine anyway, given its huge popularity.

Coolpad to launch the Cool Play 6 in India on 20 August

Coolpad has confirmed that they will launch the Cool Play 6 in Indian market on 20 August 2017. The Chinese smartphone maker revealed this on its Facebook page. The company initially launched the smartphone in China at 1,499 yuan (approx Rs 15,000).

In terms of display, Coolpad Cool Play 6 is likely to pack a 5.5-inch Full-HD display. The device is expected to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor along with Adreno 510 GPU. According to a report by GSMArena, the smartphone will pack 6 GB RAM along 64 GB internal storage which can be expanded through a microSD card. It will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

The smartphone will come with a dual camera setup on the back with two 13 MP sensors. Dual camera setup means that the camera is likely to allow shallow depth of field with the bokeh effect or true monochrome effect depending on the type of setup. Both the camera modules will come with f/2.0 aperture along with a dual-LED flash. The front camera sports an 8 MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

The device has a fingerprint sensor located on the back of the device under the dual camera setup. It also has 4G enabled dual-SIM slots for connectivity. Coolpad has added a massive 4,060 mAh battery with the Cool Play 6 along with a Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

3. Micromax ready to launch a new smartphone on August 22, 2017,  Micromax, taking a page out of Samsung's book, is likely to launch multiple phones in its Infinity range to counter the high-end Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
The teaser image sent by the domestic handset maker confirms that the new Micromax Infinity series will sport a display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The teaser has a tagline that says, "Let's put a number to infinity" along with the India launch date and the smartphone's image.
4. LG has launched it's new smartphone named as LG Q6, Learning from the LG G6, the company has brought the Q6. The device is a smaller and much more affordable device than the G6, but carries the same FullVision display with 18:9 aspect ratio.
This makes the budget phone one of a kind, and in our opinion the best looking budget smartphone we have seen in a long time. Most of the credit for this goes to the display only, which here is a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel carrying a resolution of 2160 x 1080. This means the phone is a little taller and narrow. On top of that LG has maintained slimmer bezels, which brings the footprint down drastically and compared to our resident OnePlus 5, it looks rather good and small. The display itself seems quite good and we currently have no complaints with it.
It houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC, which we last saw on the Xiaomi Redmi 4. You get 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage on the device.
And price is around 15K.
