The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus by Xiaomi saw the light of day on the 7th of December, with no indication as to when we will get to see the Redmi Note 5. But a Super Moderator on the MIUI forum said that it might not happen since the Redmi 5 Plus has taken its place.
According to “mitch002”, Xiaomi is dropping the “Note” tag in the Redmi line of devices, period, and the Redmi 5 Plus will be the only big screen phone in the Redmi series. He said,

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE SUCCESSOR OF THE REDMI 4X WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE A 5″ REDMI 5? NO ONE KNOWS, BUT AS OF THE MOMENT, XIAOMI HAS DECIDED TO DROP THE NOTE NAME ON THEIR 5.7″ SIZED BUDGET PHONES. IT HAS BEEN QUITE A YEAR AND 3 MONTHS IN THE WAITING FOR ALL OF US REDMI FANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD”
There is no official confirmation from Xiomi regarding the same, so we advise you take this news with a pinch of salt.
